Organic Chemistry Laboratory Lecturer and Laborato

The Department of Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis seeks a full-time non-tenure-track Organic Chemistry Laboratory Lecturer and Laboratory Director for appointment on or after June 15, 2015 to participate in our undergraduate chemistry instruction.  This position requires a Ph.D. in Chemistry and demonstrated excellence in large introductory Organic Chemistry lectures, laboratory instruction, and course and laboratory experiment development.  Previous undergraduate teaching experience is desirable.

Responsibilities for this Ph.D. level position include, but are not restricted to, the following duties.  The Lab Director must supervise graduate student teaching assistants (TAs) and one B.S. level staff laboratory preparation specialist in the two-semester sequence of Organic Chemistry.  The Lab Director will lecture the enrolled undergraduate students weekly in the details of Organic Chemistry lab experiments and safety considerations.  Daily oversight of laboratory instruction includes consulting and working with students during and outside of laboratory periods.  Laboratory sessions meet Monday through Saturday; lectures are given on Tuesday and Friday.  Other supervisory duties include organizing training of TAs for the Organic Chemistry labs, directing weekly TA meetings, and assessment of the oral skills of non-native English speaking TAs.  Innovative laboratory development for the two-semester Organic Chemistry lab sequence is required, as well as strict adherence to lab safety practices and proper waste disposal.  Elective duties include undergraduate advising. 

The work location is a 13 year old 127,000 square feet building housing eleven teaching laboratories, several classrooms, student resource room, an auditorium, and additional research space.
