Senior Financial Aid Counselor

Position Summary
The Financial Aid Department at St. Catherine University seeks a full time Senior Financial Aid Counselor. This position advises students and families on application procedures, award program criteria, financial aid policy and regulations. The Financial Aid Office administers a total aid budget exceeding $95 million from federal, state, institutional, and private sources. The majority of the 5000 students enrolled in the College for Women, College for Adults, and Graduate College programs at St. Kate's receive financial aid.

Responsibilities:
Serve as awarding specialist to determine eligibility and to package new and returning students in all programs at the University including College for Women, College for Adults, and the Graduate College. Coordinate awarding priorities and work load with Associate Directors to balance peak cycles and activities to meet Financial Aid Office and Enrollment Division priorities. Use cross-functional knowledge to inform consistent procedures are developed and maintained across populations.

Counsel students and their parents concerning eligibility for federal, state, institutional, and private student financial aid programs. Interpret and explain financial aid regulations, resolve simple and complex problems, offer information about financial aid options. Ensure smooth and meaningful referral to other University offices when appropriate. Provide excellent customer service during walk-in visits, appointments, telephone, and e-mail inquiries.

Manage exception reporting to identify and resolve discrepancies from new or conflicting information, the V4 & V5 verification process, and the SAVE federal eligible non-citizenship process. Complete reporting on FAA Access to CPS Online federal site within established deadlines. Collaborate with technical analysts to identify and reconcile data discrepancies between the different departmental operating systems. Provide functional testing support for Banner and related systems. Oversee special projects, provide training and mentorship, and assist in report management and development.

Represent St. Kate's and the Financial Aid Office on committees, at college fairs, and at various campus events. Prepare and deliver financial aid presentations. Assist with annual updates of financial aid application materials, and forms. Create new and revise forms with consistent design, accessibility, and data collections protocol and requirements. Provide front-desk coverage as necessary to ensure telephone and walk-in coverage. Other duties that become apparent or assigned.

Required Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid policies and regulations.
• Bachelor's degree and three years of progressive financial aid experience or equivalent combination education and experience.
• Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Dedication to providing excellent customer service to St. Catherine University community.
• Ability and desire to work as a team member and with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to think creatively and analytically to resolve complex problems.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data and make independent decisions.
• Ability to follow through and resolve conflict.
• Ability to meet deadlines and process a high volume of work with great accuracy.
• Preference for prior Banner experience.
