Assistant Professor of Statistics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Carleton College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in statistics beginning September 1, 2016. A PhD in statistics or biostatistics in hand or its imminent completion by the start date is required. Appointment at a higher level may be considered in exceptional cases. Excellence in teaching, a strong commitment to the liberal arts, an active scholarly agenda and interest in statistical consulting and research collaborations across campus and the community are expected.

Carleton is a highly selective liberal arts college with a student body of 1,900 located 45 miles south of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Our academic year consists of three ten-week terms. The 14-member Department of Mathematics and Statistics resides in a modern building with excellent facilities including a dedicated computing lab. The faculty members are passionate about teaching and active in scholarship. We are particularly interested in applicants who will contribute to a vibrant college-wide culture of undergraduate research, and who have a commitment to attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups. For further information about the department, consult the Carleton mathematics and statistics website at math.carleton.edu.

Applicants should complete the online application at the Carleton College website jobs.carleton.edu, and include a letter of interest, contract information for three references, a graduate transcript, a curriculum vitae, a statement about teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts environment, and a statement about research and other scholarly activity in an undergraduate liberal arts environment. At least one letter of recommendation should specifically address teaching experience. Inquiries may be emailed to statsearch@carleton.edu. We will begin reviewing applications on December 1, 2015.
