Summary of Position This is a part-time, semester-by-semester position, approximately 15 hours per week for 16 weeks/semester and may include occasional evening and weekend hours. This position will provide services including: program advising and admission, student recruitment, liaison with regional community colleges, and law enforcement agencies as needed.
Additionally, this position is expected to teach criminal justice courses in Traverse City and Gaylord (additional compensation is paid for teaching per the adjunct teaching rates.) Other locations may be added as needed.
The position may have professional responsibilities that may include professional development; participation in curriculum development and university committees; orientation, registration of students, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students); and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance.
Co-report to Assistant Director of Off Campus for School of Criminal Justice and the Director for the Northern Region. We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible.

Special Instructions to Applicants Transcript 1 ( REQUIRED ): Applicants must attach a copy of unofficial transcript of Master's degree or higher in Criminal Justice or related field.
A Juris Doctorate is not an equivalent degree and will not be considered for this position.
Transcript 2 ( OPTIONAL ): Applicants who have completed PhD coursework or attained a degree in Criminal Justice or related field must attach a copy of unofficial transcript.
Transcripts must include: Institution name, applicant name, date degree attained, degree awarded. Finalist will be required to submit official transcripts.

Required Qualifications

Required Education Master's degree or higher in Criminal Justice or related field.
Must have the necessary academic credentials and work experience to be approved as an adjunct instructor to teach criminal justice courses.
A Juris Doctorate is not an equivalent degree and will not be considered for this position.

Required Work Experience Five years of criminal justice experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or related field.
A history of scholarly research.
Teaching experience in higher education.

Duties Academic advising for criminal justice students, including setting advising days at each of the locations included in the area of responsibility, creation of academic checksheets, advising students on equivalent community college courses, verification of the completion of admission requirements for new applicants, determining the admission decision for same students, verification of consortium forms, and completion of graduation audit requirements.

Duties Program development and recruiting of new students into the criminal justice program through scheduling and attendance at planned career fairs, relationship building meetings with faculty from criminal justice programs at partner community colleges, meetings with law enforcement and related agencies, classroom visits, etc.
