Summary of Position Provide academic advising, recruitment, retention support, admissions oversight and serve as the regional community college, business and industry liaison for programs in the School of Education at the Grand Rapids and Muskegon campuses. A majority of the time will be spent assisting students in the development of academic plans and class schedules, advising on academic program changes and meeting with prospective students and their families. Participate in recruitment efforts such as open houses, job fairs, community college classroom visits, recruitment tables, and other events as appropriate. Other duties include responding to inquiries regarding programs and maintaining communication with students and the School of Education.

Required Qualifications

Required Education Bachelor's degree in Education or in a content/related area.
Master's degree in Education.

Required Work Experience Two years demonstrated work experience working in a K-12 school setting or minimum two years demonstrated experience in higher education advising.

Duties

Duties Provide year-round academic advising presence for prospective and current School of Education students: this includes setting regular advising dates and times at each of the locations and will require evening availability, advises students on equivalent community college courses, verifies completion of admission requirements for new applications, assists with student admission and registration, verifies consortium forms, and reviews graduation audit requirements.

Duties Conduct education program development and recruits new students; schedules and attends career and college fairs; visits local high schools to inform students and counselors of careers in education; schedules building meetings with faculty at partner community colleges and conducts classroom visitations. After hours and weekend availability will be necessary.

Duties Serve as the local liaison to business and industry: meets key individuals in regional businesses and industry to promote Ferris' education programs; assist in identifying local field placement sites for the regional education students.
