Required Qualifications and Education:
Earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution; previous work experience in an Education Abroad Office, or experience working in a university setting advising students; basic knowledge of education abroad programs and processes; demonstrate an understanding of education abroad support services; exhibits a high level of professionalism; ability to succeed in a fast-paced and demanding environment; experience living, working or studying abroad; must excel at paying close attention to detail; proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel; must possess excellent intercultural communication and writing skills; exhibit empathy and enthusiasm in interactions with students and colleagues; demonstrate excellent judgment and the ability to deal with difficult situations; be well-organized; and demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently. Applicant must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications and Education:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year of experience in the field of international education; education abroad programming experience, including facilitating pre-departure orientations and re-entry events; and proficiency in a second language.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions:
Working under the supervision of the Director of Study Abroad & International Partnerships, the Coordinator has primary responsibility for advising outbound students on a wide variety of pre-departure practical matters. Essential responsibilities include: coordinating the host university application process for GVSU's exchange programs; managing the registration process for outbound students; maintaining a database with important partner contacts and exchange balances; generating rosters and reports, such as the IIE Open Doors Report submission; create and update pre-departure orientation materials; conduct pre-departure orientation sessions; maintain up-to-date student files; disseminate information that may require explanation and interpretation of established university and departmental policies and procedures; collaborate with other departments on-campus to facilitate efficient administrative procedures that support education abroad; design and implement re-entry programming; review student files for required course approvals; oversee updates to course equivalency charts; coordinate the process for tracking financial aid consortium agreements; assist in managing Online Application Student Information System (OASIS); assist in hosting international visitors; and collaborate with the Director on other programs that benefit study abroad participants in the pre-departure and re-entry stages.
