Summary of Position Kendall College of Art and Design, Ferris State University ( KCAD ) in Grand Rapids, MI prepares artists and designers to have impact through practice. Responsibilities for a KCAD adjunct faculty member include syllabus and class preparation, instruction during scheduled course time, providing reasonable availability to students for consultation and assistance with respect to assigned course(s), and evaluation of student performance.
The new Master of Architecture Program ( KCAD MArch) admitted its first cohort of students for the fall, 2014 semester. The degree structure is built on a sequence of immersive seminars and studio explorations. Its curriculum structure is unique among college architecture programs. This position provides the opportunity for collaborative contribution to a new and exciting approach to graduate architecture education. The program has begun the NAAB accreditation process and successfully achieved NAAB Initial Candidacy in 2014. Because of the unique structure of the curriculum, courses in the MArch are often taught by faculty teams, with a lead instructor. Teams will be drawn from architecture as well as other KCAD disciplines and may include outside academic and professional members.
This posting is for one or more one-semester positions. The appointment(s) is(are) part time without benefits. The appointment may be renewed by mutual consent. This position's initial teaching assignment will likely include team teaching of one of the fall studios in the 2- or 3-year KCAD MArch. These studios range in emphasis from introductory design to urban engagement.

Required Qualifications

Required Education An accredited professional Master of Architecture degree.
Candidates with a PhD in Architecture or a closely related field in addition to an MArch are encouraged to apply. However, a PhD is not required for teaching in the KCAD MArch.
Candidates with a professional Bachelor of Architecture degree from a NAAB -accredited College or University, plus a post-professional Master of Science degree in a closely related field such as landscape architecture, urban planning, or building science will be considered.
Candidates with a master's degree in landscape architecture, urban design or planning, or building science will be considered.

Required Work Experience Three to five years of experience in architectural practice or a related field.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered One to three years of experience teaching architecture or a closely related field, including teaching design studio.
US architectural licensure.
Demonstrated professional track record of excellence in built projects.
Demonstrated record of scholarly and creative projects.
