The College of Education at Wayne State University invites applications for appointment to a nine month tenure track position in Qualitative Methods of Educational Evaluation and Research at an open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). The successful candidate will join a diverse faculty in a college committed to the university’s dual Carnegie mission of research and community engagement. He or she is expected to teach graduate courses in qualitative methodologies, maintain an active program of research and scholarship, pursue external funding to support research, advise and mentor graduate students, and work collaboratively with faculty and students across the college to support their research and grant-writing needs.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in educational qualitative research methods, design, evaluation, and assessment. Dissertation, publications, or grant work should primarily be on the basic methodologies of educational qualitative methods, and can be supplemented with applied work on any aspect of education or related disciplines. The successful candidate may be aligned with any of the major qualitative traditions or paradigms, but must be competent and willing to teach and advise doctoral students regardless of tradition or paradigm.

The successful candidate will have an excellent record of both research and teaching, demonstrated ability in supervising both basic and applied Master’s theses and Doctoral dissertations, and knowledge of qualitative software packages. Experience teaching in a blended on on-line environment is a plus.

Responsibilities:

Teaching responsibilities may include both introductory and advanced courses in educational qualitative research methods and design, data collection and analysis, and educational qualitative program evaluation. Evidence of a scholarly productivity, a well-defined research agenda, and ability to procure extramural funding are essential, as is the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and diverse environment.
