Dean of Cooperative Extension

The University of Maine invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of Cooperative Extension.

The Dean is the chief executive officer of Cooperative Extension (UMaine Extension) and reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.  The Dean provides leadership for UMaine Extension’s education programs, applied research, and scholarship in service to the State of Maine and beyond, and is responsible for strategic, fiscal, staffing, personnel, and public service matters; staff development; commitment to diversity and inclusion; and compliance with university-wide policies. The Dean also fosters productive relationships with government, industry, and the public stakeholders in Maine; other units of UMaine and the University of Maine System, and other extension programs in the national Cooperative Extension network.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate with credentials and experience to qualify for the rank of Associate Extension Professor.  Candidates must provide evidence of effective leadership and communication skills; developing effective partnerships; experience in ensuring effective management of fiscal, human, and facility resources; and understanding and knowledge of the role of Cooperative Extension in land grant universities and at state and national levels.

UMaine Extension is the largest extension program in New England and is comprised of 240 full-time and temporary staff, which includes campus-based specialists/educators/professionals, and faculty and staff at 16 county-based offices, three residential 4-H Camp and Learning Centers, and two research farms of the Maine Agricultural and Forest Experiment Station.  As a trusted resource for over 100 years, UMaine Extension has supported UMaine’s land and sea grant mission by conducting community-driven, research-based programs in every Maine county.
