Job Summary

Bowdoin College has a full-time academic-year laboratory instructor position available in the Department of Physics & Astronomy beginning Fall 2017. Responsibilities include: teaching physics laboratory; coordinating laboratory setup and implementation; providing technical assistance to students; assisting in the design of course lab protocols; grading lab reports; supervising student assistants; and maintaining laboratory and computer equipment.

Education/Skills Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in physics is required, a Master's degree is preferred. Applicants must possess strong computer skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; proven problem-solving abilities; and a demonstrated ability to provide individual and group instruction with a sensitivity to different learning styles.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Experience teaching physics labs is required, at either the high school or college level. Experience with modern electronic instrumentation, including computer interfacing with lab PCs, also required.

Standard Work Days and Hours

Normally M-F, 8:30 - 5:00 during the academic year.
