Job Summary

The Special Collections & Archives Departmental Assistant performs stacks maintenance for the department; orders and manages archival, rare book and general office supplies required to support print and archival materials workflows; assists in the accessioning and processing of rare books and other departmental holdings; and provides general administrative support for the Department of Special Collections & Archives.

Education/Skills Requirements

A Bachelor of Arts degree is required. Applicants must possess demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, with evidence of ability to attend to accuracy, attention to detail and discretion, and the need for confidentiality; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment; excellent organizational skills; and strong word processing and spreadsheet skills. Knowledge of or experience with library systems, particularly integrated library systems catalogs, strongly preferred.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

One year of experience in a cultural heritage or office environment is required. Also required: general familiarity with libraries or archives, experience managing office operations or performing administrative support functions. Experience working in a library strongly preferred. Supervisory experience desirable.
The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal history background check and a pre-placement physical.

Standard Work Days and Hours

10 hours/week. Exact schedule to be determined.
