Assistant Professor of Physical Education Teacher

The Department of Secondary and Physical Education at Salisbury University is accepting applications position of Assistant Professor of Physical Education Teacher Education. This is a full-time tenure-track position. 

 

Area of Specialization:  Physical Education Teacher Preparation

 

Primary Job Duties:  Teaching undergraduate level courses in physical education content and teaching methods courses for undergraduate K-12 teacher candidates, advising undergraduate students in the program, and supporting the program’s accreditation through participation in data collection, analysis, and program improvement. As a teacher preparation program, we highly value excellent college teaching in our faculty.  Working collaboratively with departmental colleagues, local school districts, and across departments is essential.  Faculty members are expected to conduct and publish research and to engage in other scholarly activities, as well as to provide service to the department, University and profession.

 

As a nationally-accredited PETE program, we require a strong knowledge of SHAPE/PETE standards and their direct application to the effective preparation of teacher candidates. In addition to teaching physical education courses, the successful applicant may teach health pedagogy and education foundations courses in the Department. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or  Ed.D., in Physical Education Teacher Education or closely related field with a focus in teacher education.   ABD considered with completion at time of appointment.
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching physical education in K-12 public/private schools
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written skills
  • Demonstrated ability in Physical Education pedagogy

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College teaching experience is desirable
