Social Media Coordinator

Job Description:

General Responsibilities


Utilize skills in writing, design, photography, and multimedia production to support the Public Relations Manager (PRM) in generating content for social media channels as part of the college's strategic integrated marketing and public relations communications. The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for maintaining HCC's social media channels in support of the college's brand and mission. This position will also be responsible for identifying, measuring, analyzing, and making tactical recommendations for the channels based on key metrics and data.


Work Performed


Execute communications for HCC's official institutional social media accounts, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other emerging social media platforms, in alignment with the public relations and marketing strategic plan, and the college's brand and mission. Work to include routinely monitoring, measuring, and analyzing activity for each channel, and responding as appropriate


Assist PRM in strategic planning for social media communications and campaigns. Serve as coordinator for tactical implementation of these campaigns, including content development, technical execution, and measurement


Use native and third-party social media monitoring tools to evaluate performance of social media content against social media content strategy, and public relations and marketing strategies. Adjust tactics or approach as needed to achieve objectives. Assist PRM in regular updating and reporting on social media content strategy


Monitor approved secondary college social media accounts. Provide social media training and support to faculty and staff regarding management of college-approved secondary social media accounts. Manage college social media account owners users group. Serve as primary manager of the college's official social media accounts procedure


Work with student clubs and groups on social media presence, as needed


Take photos and create other digital content, such as videos or simple graphics, for use on social media accounts. Work with Photographer/Graphic Designer to plan and coordinate more complex photo shoots. Use design and photography software to edit photos as needed to ensure best quality for posting


Stay abreast of emerging social media trends and technologies, evaluate potential for HCC communications, and implement when appropriate


Under direction of PRM and Director of Public Relations and Marketing (DPRM), work with external digital marketing agency partners to develop content and implement tactics in support of paid advertising campaigns


Assist PRM in research, interviews, and writing for stories that will be used on social media, website, emerging technologies, and other communications


Under direction of PRM, contact key stakeholders to gather story ideas for use on social media platforms and in other communications


Assist DPRM with crisis communications on social media channels, as needed

Minimum Requirements



  • Associate degree

  • Two years professional work experience in a public relations, marketing, communications, or related office, performing social media and other related communications duties. Experience with social media monitoring and measurement

  • Demonstrated social media content writing skills

  • Knowledge and skills in a wide variety of web-based social media platforms

  • Demonstrated skills in shooting photos and videos for social media use

  • Experience with basic digital photo editing

  • Experience and skills in effectively communicating and collaborating with external and internal stakeholders


Preferred Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in communications-related field

  • Knowledge of web-based social media measurement and analytical tools

  • Knowledge of AP style

  • Knowledge of photo and video editing software

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Regular attendance is a requirement of this job

Additional Information:


Hours Per Week: 37.5 hours
Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Compensation: $46,796 plus excellent health insurance, paid leave and tuition reimbursement
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
