Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Senior Director of Foundation Relations will play a critical role in the success of UMD's next fundraising campaign. S/he serves as the lead foundation relations development officer and is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private foundation gifts and grants in support of University of Maryland, College Park priorities. S/he will develop and implement strategies that align University strengths, initiatives, and priorities with foundation programs, and will play a key role in positioning the University on the leading edge within a myriad of disciplines in an effort to increase foundation grants and collaborations for UMD . A key responsibility will be a role as convener for research efforts across the campus into a single, compelling proposal, working closely with the Office of the Vice President for Research ( VPR ), the Office of the Provost, the University of Maryland College Park Foundation ( UMCPF ), and the University System of Maryland Foundation ( USMF ). S/he will manage solicitations of foundations by senior administrators, including the President and Provost, deans, faculty, board members, volunteers and others as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:
Seven to ten (7 to 10) years of experience working with private foundations, government grants and/or corporate foundations is required.

Demonstrated success in fundraising and proven track record in securing foundation gifts, grants, and sponsorships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent proposal writing skills.
Ability to manage teams of senior faculty and administrators working together to develop compelling proposals.
Ability to handle multiple assignments and work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.
Ability to think strategically and creatively.
Able to work well in a team environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferences:

Advanced degree preferred.

Experience in higher education, preferably with an emphasis on foundation relations.

Experience using online research tools to identify prospective funders.
