Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Office of Creative Strategies is a unit within University Marketing and Communications that produces most of the premier publications and digital imagery for the University of Maryland. The Photography unit is responsible for the planning, creation and archiving of all digital photographic imagery that visually markets and brands the University of Maryland.

We are seeking a highly-skilled photographer who has demonstrated ability in capturing a variety of subject matter.

The photographer will work directly with the digital media team, as well as the design and editorial teams to determine photographic needs for use in marketing and communications strategies. The photographer will assist the Director of Photography on major photo shoots as well as handle assignments independently. S/he will schedule and coordinate photo shoots. S/he must have superior interpersonal and customer-service skills and be a resource for clients with photographic needs for use on the university website or booklets, magazines, brochures, newsletters and other creative materials.
The photographer must be detail-oriented and have a high level of skill using postproduction image editing programs and software such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Adobe Creative Cloud and Photo Mechanic.

Traditional office environment for post-production work. Must have the ability to carry heavy photographic camera and lighting equipment. Must be able to reach, bend, kneel, and ascend/descend ladders and other structures. May be required to work in high structures and stand for long periods of time. Occasional local travel required for press inspections and photo shoots. Will be required to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Applicants must submit a portfolio of photographic images that demonstrates skill in composition, lighting and handling a variety of subject matter at the time of application.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
BA or BS degree in related field or equivalent.

Valid driver's license.

Experience:
Minimum 5 years as a full-time professional in the field with proven skills in photography which may include editorial photography, landscape photography, campus life, portrait photography and event photography.
Experience with professional digital camera equipment, studio lighting, and on-location lighting.

Preferences:

Preferences
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud.
Experience in the production of high-quality graphics and multimedia features in a variety of formats, including print, illustration, photography, video, animation and infographics.
Design/print production experience.
Experience with Digital Asset Management systems.
Experience with image organization and metadata input/searching skills.
