Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Assistant Vice President ( AVP ) of University Relations manages the University of Maryland College Park Board of Trustees and directs development support services for the division of University Relations. The AVP also serves as Vice President/Secretary for the University of Maryland College Park Foundations, Inc., managing the activities of the University of College Park Foundation Board of Trustees which includes developing and implementing meeting and committee agendas. The AVP works closely with the Board Chair and the Chair of the Executive Committee on board related issues, identifying and recruiting trustees, and acting as a liaison for the President and Vice President with various volunteers, donors, and prospects. This person works directly with the President, Vice President and Provost as required in support of the Board of Trustees.

The AVP supervises the Office of Donor Relations and Stewardship which includes developing donor focused events and programs, endowment reports, personalized donor reports, MOU's, gift clubs and other related stewardship activities. This individual will also supervise the Office of Special Events which includes planning and executing development and campaign events, overseeing the president's suites for basketball and football and other related activities including commencement and convocation. In addition, the AVP will supervise the Office of Prospect Management and Research, which includes researching and compiling high level and confidential information on University constituents, identifying new prospects, ensuring integrity of constituent data, advising on prospect assignments, and adhering to legal privacy requirements and ethical standards.

This position will require the availability to work nights and weekends and travel approximately 20% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):

Bachelor's degree.

Experience:

A minimum of 10 years of experience, preferably in higher education; including supervising and managing staff, budget management, personnel services, developing and implementing annual goals; significant experience managing and working with high level boards and volunteers, experience in fund raising and capital campaign, developing and implementing special events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal skills, excellent writing skills demonstrated experience working with volunteers and board management.

General understanding of all university relations functions, including development, alumni relations, marketing and communication, and development administrations.

Ability to manage staff.

Demonstrated ability to develop cultivation and successful solicitation strategies.

Ability to work both independently and part of a team is necessary for success.

Preferences:

Master's degree.

Knowledge of university personnel policies and procedures is desirable.

Knowledge and understanding of UMCP and USMF policies and procedures is desirable.
