Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

As a member of the University Relations Department of Alumni Relations, the Assistant Director of Regional Programming is responsible for the planning and implementation of strategies, programs and projects that increase alumni participation and engagement in the Western United States (Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Denver, Phoenix, Seattle and growth markets), the greater alumni community and the University of Maryland. The Assistant Director will recruit and support volunteers, identify and engage alumni for future volunteer leadership and philanthropic support, manage and execute events, ensure effective alumni communications and quality alumni data, and effectively coordinate specific alumni relations strategies and programs into the overarching alumni relations and campaign strategies for the University of Maryland. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement and is based in California (preferably Los Angeles or San Francisco).

This position requires availability to work evenings and/or weekends are necessary. Some heavy lifting required during events. 50 % travel (plane, train, other) required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's Degree required.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years professional experience working in alumni relations, marketing, program development, and/or relationship management capacity.
Strong experience with program budgeting, strategic planning and marketing programs to increase participation are essential.
Demonstrated experience managing volunteers, working with committees and boards; and coordinating special events are essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrating proficiency at multi-tasking; excellent written and oral communication skills; computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must.
Ability to work collaboratively with a group of fund-raising professionals and program staff professionals, faculty and program staff.
Good understanding/appreciation of the values of a public high education institution and ability to articulate it to internal and external constituencies.

Preferences:

Master's degree preferred.
