Instructors should have experience teaching students with intellectual, developmental, physical, and social challenges. Most classes are weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. Programs include Child Care, Professional Animal Workers, Office Skills, Warehouse Technician, Retail Sales and Barista. Trainings are held on campus and off-campus; travel to client agency sites and internship sites may be required.
Responsibilities include: (1) preparing and teaching lessons for students with disabilities functioning at different levels in the classroom; (2) classroom management of student behaviors with the support of a coordinator; (3) completing paperwork- a syllabus for each class, attendance rosters, student evaluations, and any other required paperwork; and (4) assessing student competencies for completion of training. Pay rate for non-credit courses in Continuing Education are commensurate with education and experience qualifications.
Pay rate Adjunct Faculty Con. Ed Step 1 - 27.47/hour
- Two years of academic and/or professional expertise teaching students with intellectual and other disabilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
- Two years of experience teaching or training in a special education classroom setting or inclusive environment or equivalent.
- Experience teaching essential job skills (soft skills).
- Computer Proficiency to include Microsoft software and applications as well as experience integrating technology into curriculum.
- Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule that may include occasional evening and weekend assignments.
- Experience working or teaching in one or more of the following fields
- Child Care Maryland 90-hour certification; Infant and Toddler Care
- Professional Animal Workers basic animal care, diet, and skills needed to work in a kennel, animal daycare or animal hospital;
- Office Skills Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), working with office technology including copiers, phones, and customer service skills.
- Warehouse Technician reading and math skills needed to do inventory in a warehouse setting, using inventory technology, and forklift operation and certification.
