Associate Director of Foundation Relations

UMBC is a dynamic public research university integrating teaching, research and service. While only 52 years old, UMBC has made a significant impact on the state and region. UMBC is one of a select set of universities across the country to be named to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s 2018 “Great Colleges to Work For” list. The university was also named as an “honor roll” university for the eighth year in a row, excelling in nearly every measured category. Under the leadership of an experienced Vice President of Institutional Advancement, UMBC is in the public phase of a $150 million comprehensive campaign—the most ambitious and comprehensive fundraising effort in its history.

The Division of Institutional Advancement at UMBC is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Director of Foundation Relations (AD-FR). Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Careers and Corporate Partnerships (AVP), the AD-FR will be charged with expanding a strong university-wide foundation relations program focused on building long-term, high value organizational partnerships.

UMBC prides itself on the quality and strength of its external partnerships. The AD-FR will help drive the University’s foundation relations program which aims to increase philanthropic investment in UMBC’s key strategic priorities, including improving access, retention and completion rates for students of all backgrounds. Working closely with the AVP, the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and the Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the successful candidate will help organize and catalyze institution-wide projects involving multiple principal investigators and coordinate outreach with potential funders.

The AD-FR will maintain an active portfolio of foundation partnerships; research and cultivate new funding opportunities, plan and manage visits by regional and national foundations; build strong relationships with campus stakeholders; develop a deep knowledge of institutional programs and priorities; coordinate, write and submit proposals; actively steward gifts and grants; and perform other duties as assigned.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree (Master’s preferred) from an accredited institution and at least two years of successful foundation fundraising or development experience in higher education or a comparable environment.

The incumbent selected for this position should have a demonstrated ability to:

● develop strategic relationships by matching university priorities and donor interests;

● work successfully with faculty and staff across a broad range of disciplines;

● shape complex projects into compelling fundraising proposals;

● steward and manage critical relationships with a wide variety of partners.

The successful candidate will have the following characteristics:

● superior communication and organizational skills;

● ability to manage complex time-sensitive projects with competing deadlines;

● excellent follow-through and attention to detail;

● independent decision-making and sound judgment handling confidential material;

● proven skill connecting with individuals at all levels -- from students to CEOs;

● ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment and build consensus among individuals with competing priorities.

This is a full-time staff position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and compensation includes full university benefits.

For best consideration, please submit a cover letter, resume, and responses to the application questions by May 3, 2019 (application materials will be accepted until the position is filled).at: http://listings.umbc.edu/cw/en-us/job/492913?lApplicationSubSourceID=11312
