Assistant Superintendent of Grounds


Clark University's Physical Plant seeks to fill the position of Assistant Superintendent of Grounds. Reporting to the Superintendent of Grounds, the successful candidate will perform daily/weekly supervision of staff members. Primary responsibilities for this position are to assist the Superintendent of Grounds in the daily supervision and training of Grounds Department staff, short and long term planning and scheduling, including the completion and assignment of daily grounds work.

Duties and Responsibilities
Included in a range of responsibilities, the Assistant Superintendent of Grounds will assist in the training of staff members and in the short/long term planning of Grounds Department operations. In addition, the Assistant Superintendent of Grounds will be responsible for Pesticide/fertilizer applications, the establishment/maintenance/management of turf and plantings, snow removal and associated treatments and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a sense of ownership and pride in one's work, be able to work with minimal supervision, and have the knowledge and understanding of grounds equipment and use of power equipment and tools related to grounds work. A valid driver's license with D.O.T Certificate and clean driving record is required. The successful candidate will have a Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License Grade 1C and 2B or higher (or the ability to obtain within six months of hire) and a Massachusetts Pesticide Applicators License (or the ability to obtain within six months of hire).
Individuals with experience/knowledge in grounds operations, pesticide/fertilizer calibration and application, irrigation management, arboriculture, and sports field maintenance are strongly desired. Candidates with previous experience supervising staff and 3 years of experience in a Higher Education setting are preferred.

Technical qualifications include basic computer competency and math skills.

This position is classified as essential, and has a full-time, 40 hours per week, 12-month schedule with excellent benefits, which include employee and family tuition benefits, vacation, generous retirement plan, free use of campus fitness center and many more.
