Williams College invites applications for the position of Director of Human Resources. Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Director of Human Resources will be a trusted campus partner who provides responsive policies, services, and programs for the Williams community. 

 

Working with leaders across the campus and within the community, the Director of Human Resources is charged with collaboratively developing and implementing a shared vision for the college; leading and implementing  continuous improvements to ensure that all constituents have access to consistent, quality information systems, services and resources. The Director serves as the chief advocate and strategist for issues related to people and provides inspirational leadership to an evolving team of HR professionals who provide responsive and effective customer service.

Human Resources is responsible for the full range of human resource functions in addition to overseeing spouse/partner resources for faculty and staff, student employment, and payroll. The office supports over 1100 faculty and staff, and 1400 student employees. The Office is a team of thirteen professionals with demonstrated experience and expertise across the HR spectrum.

 

The Director of Human Resources at Williams is a strategic institutional partner and a hands-on generalist with an interest in and knowledge of all facets of human resources. This position requires a seasoned professional who is intellectually curious, an astute observer of human behavior, process oriented, and possesses considerable knowledge and expertise in the emerging technologies and trends in the field. This position serves as a forceful champion for fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, and promotes effective services and programs that cultivate an environment of respect and professional engagement.

 

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess strong and effective interpersonal and team-building skills; be an accessible and supportive colleague;
  • Possess outstanding listening and influencing skills and the ability to cultivate trust and credibility among various constituencies;
  • Possess the ability to generate enthusiasm among diverse constituencies and individuals;
  • Demonstrate a solid track record of leading and successfully supporting organizational change in a comparably complex organization, as well as a proven track record of process improvement.

 

Candidates will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with eight or more years of progressively responsible experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  The possession of deep operational expertise in the key HR competencies, including employment, compensation and benefits, employee relations, organizational development and training, employment law and information systems is crucial. Familiarity with PeopleSoft and human resources systems is a plus and appropriate human resources certifications are preferred (e.g. SHRM, SPHR, PHR, etc.) Salary is commensurate with experience
