Procurement Associate Director - Purchasing

The University Purchasing Department is responsible for the administration of all purchasing activities on campus in accordance with the University s established policies, procedures and governmental regulations. Purchasing negotiates and manages contracts with Tufts suppliers and is accountable for the efficient procurement of goods and services through the use of competitive bidding, negotiation, and consortia agreements. Procurement is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive sourcing plans to ensure we are achieving the best value from our suppliers.

The Associate Director will work in closely with the Senior Director of Procurement to develop current and future Procurement strategies in support of a University-wide procurement plan and will be responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of a team of Sourcing professionals. The Associate Director will also act as the lead for all Procurement related IT systems and initiatives to ensure evolving business and regulatory requirements are met while providing proper business oversite, appropriate financial controls and efficient operational processing.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • The candidate should possess a Bachelor s Degree with 10 years relevant experience, 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated project management experience regarding competitive sourcing.
  • Extensive experience with e-procurement IT systems (procure-to-pay).
  • Solid contract negotiation experience and advanced knowledge of contract types, terms.
  • Experience in Federal agency-based and private grant/contract funded procurement.
  • Ability to collaborate and develop strong business relationships with key stake holders internal and external.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer relationship, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong capacity to prioritize work and projects.
  • Cost and business analysis proposal summary skills.
  • Procurement support on all three Tufts University campuses as projects require.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Finance or Accounting background preferred.
  • Preferred Education: Degree in business or related field (BA or BS).
  • Experience required. Post-secondary coursework in business law, accounting, and/or management desirable.
  • Procurement experience in higher education or related non-profit governmental entity(ies).
