Director of Communications - School of Arts and Sciences

The Department of Communications develops and maintains an integrated communications strategy that furthers the goals, values, and mission of the School of Arts and Sciences, consistent with the strategic objectives of the School dean and in concert with the university s communications goals. The department provides marketing support, strategic communications, and branding guidance to the schools of Arts and Sciences, SMFA at Tufts, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

The Director of Communications leads the team that executes the marketing and enrollment strategies, enhancing the reputation and visibility of the schools to audiences within and beyond Tufts. S/he oversees design and development of high quality, effective materials, publications and messaging, and develops or oversees website, digital communications, and social media strategies. The Director is responsible for information dissemination from the A&S dean s office; building and maintaining relationships across schools and divisions; and branding and image management for the School of Arts and Sciences. S/he hires, trains, and manages staff as well as consultants and vendors and develops strategic and on-going communications work plans. The Director of Communications provides marketing and public relations expertise and planning for faculty members, departments, administrators and other constituents and represents the interests of the schools in all relevant university-wide committees and working groups.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor s degree in related area of study and 7 years of professional communications experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree and experience in higher education setting strongly preferred.
