Benefits Specialist - Human Resources

This Benefits Specialist will focus on HRIS, including running queries, sending data files to vendors, and acting as the back-up to the Benefits Analyst.

The Human Resources (HR) Benefits Office supports all university constituencies. In directing the benefit programs for the university, our goal is to review, analyze, develop, implement, communicate and manage a competitive, flexible and financially sound benefits package for active and retired faculty and staff. In addition, the HR Benefits Office is responsible for monitoring state and federal legislation changes and implementing appropriate benefit/system changes. We are committed to supporting the benefit needs of an increasingly diverse employee population.

To serve as a Benefits Specialist, a successful candidate must have complete knowledge of all university benefit plans/provisions as well as have a benefits administration background working with plan compliance. Counsels and assists staff, faculty and retirees regarding a variety of benefit programs such as: health, dental, vision, health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, life, AD&D, long term disability, long term care insurance, 401(a) Basic, 403(b) Voluntary and 457(b) retirement plans, and other miscellaneous/ancillary programs. Responsible for administering assigned employee/retiree benefit programs ensuring compliance with employee benefit statutory regulations, activating/auditing employee plan enrollment and management of third party vendors. Familiarity with audit controls and procedures a plus.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
3 5 years of employee benefits administration experience
Knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, FMLA, ACA, Labor Laws
Experienced with enterprise HRIS systems, proficient with MS office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
Customer focused with superior customer service skills
Audit experience; ensures that benefit programs are being administered according to Plan documents and that the PeopleSoft system reflects current/accurate data.
Strong organizational/prioritization skills
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate technical information in understandable terms to non-technical, diverse groups of constituents
Must maintain complete confidentiality at all times
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with PeopleSoft reporting writing and Self Service Products a plus.
SPHR, PHR or CEBS certification.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Main campus is Medford; Requires travel to and from various campus locations (Boston and Grafton)
