Patent Assistant



PATENT ASSISTANT, Technology Licensing Office (TLO), to support the management of patent prosecution within the TLO. This involves primary oversight of the patent database and includes patent docketing and overseeing activities such as entering patent bibliographic data; comparing/contrasting inventorship integrity between application filings and technology disclosure forms; ensuring data accuracy for priority claim integrity; verifying case types are accurate; inspecting and correcting data; and assessing Terminal Disclaimer and Patent Term Adjustment's effect on a given patent and manually updating the respective patent's expiration date accordingly. Will also generate annuity and maintenance fee reminders via the Annuity Management System (AMS) and provide all annuity instructions to CPI; review reports from computer packages and AMS and reconcile discrepancies; and communicate with outside counsel on filing requests, including determination of entity size.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a minimum of five years' administrative assistant experience, preferably in a legal/patent environment; excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; ability to assess large quantities of information, anticipate issues, and make effective decisions; solid understanding of the entire patent application and prosecution process, including current knowledge of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) rules and practices (experience with electronic filing using the USPTO EFS-web strongly preferred); proficiency with Microsoft Office and knowledge of database programs (Microsoft Access); ability to work independently and as part of a team; and exceptional interpersonal skills and command of the English language. Seek a highly motivated self-starter who can prioritize, meet deadlines, and multitask efficiently and productively under pressure. Bachelor's degree desired.
