LEGAL SERVICES ASSOCIATE, MIT Investment Management Company (MITIMCo) , to understand and manage (at least on a first-point-of-contact basis) the legal and compliance issues faced by a real estate management and development office. Will assist with leasing efforts--for office, laboratory, and retail premises--and financing, permitting, and acquisition matters; manage the efforts of outside counsel; review consultant contracts, spot key legal issues, and manage the consultant contracting process; prepare common real estate documents, e.g., lease amendments, access agreements, and non-disclosure agreements; devise and implement strategies for identifying and processing large volumes of documents/information, especially electronically-stored; coordinate and manage paper and electronic document collection, review, and production; and handle special projects as assigned.

MITIMCo is a department within MIT that manages over $18 billion for the Institute's endowment, retirement plan, and other pools of capital and approximately $2 billion in Cambridge real estate holdings on a gross value basis. Its Cambridge Real Estate Team is responsible for developing and maintaining a high profile, complex, and dynamic real estate portfolio.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : a J.D.; at least three years' experience and expertise in large law firm or in-house corporate legal environment, working with busy lawyers on complex real estate matters; admission to the Massachusetts Bar; advanced problem solving skills for resolving ambiguous, complex, and multivariable problems; excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills; strong Microsoft Office skills; keen judgment; and attention to detail. Must be able to respond to different constituencies; manage multiple projects, shifting priorities, and own work needs and that of the office; meet tight deadlines; and work under pressure.
