INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICER, Technology Licensing Office (TLO), to work closely with TLO colleagues and lead the strategic management of MIT's vast patent portfolio (~2,600 issued and ~1,500 pending U.S. patents and over 350 new U.S. patent applications annually). Will work closely with licensing colleagues to ensure the appropriate protection of MIT's intellectual assets and assist colleagues who disseminate MIT technology to companies through licensing and collaborative research agreements. Responsibilities include acting as relationship manager with patent law firms hired to prosecute MIT's patents, working closely with inventors and technology licensing officers working in a wide range of technology areas to provide guidance on prosecution strategy, managing four administrative staff, and playing a key leadership role in developing and implementing strategies for improving the quality and value of MIT's IP assets.

This position embodies a unique overlap of technology, business, and law and affords the opportunity to know some of the world's brightest scientists and engineers.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: B.S. in science or engineering; registered patent agent (USPTO); extensive, up-to-date knowledge of patenting processes, rules, procedures, and practices surrounding U.S. and foreign patent prosecution; broad range of patent-related experience, including significant experience in invention evaluation, strategic patent portfolio management, and drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications; significant experience managing docketing, billing, budgets, etc., as part of a legal operation; excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills; diplomacy and collaborative approach to developing and maintaining effective working relationships; and experience managing teams and successfully leading and implementing change in a vibrant working environment. A law degree and/or advanced degree (MSc, Ph.D.) preferred. In-house experience in a university environment a plus. Job #15710-R
