FABRICATION ASSOCIATE, Program in Art, Culture and Technology (ACT) , to work closely with students and faculty. Will provide students with instruction on safety procedures related to all shops and techniques of woodworking, metalworking, plaster casting, and digital fabrication; organize and maintain workspaces, security, and storage; provide technical instruction for visual arts foundations and fabrication-based classes, including orientation to facilities and procedures; and provide technical instruction, consultation, and guidance to students and faculty on the processes that relate specifically to their projects. Will also be responsible for the maintenance of the facilities which include a wood shop, metal shop, sewing, and plaster casting room. Maintenance duties include making sure that the facilities comply with MIT's environmental health and safety regulations.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : at least five years' fabrication experience; strong fabrication background and demonstrated working knowledge of CNC, CAD, Rhino, and sewing; knowledge of sculptural processes and materials and woodworking and metal cutting tools; demonstrated skill working with different building materials, e.g., wood, plastic, metals, etc.; mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to make minor equipment troubleshooting adjustments; knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems sufficient to make minor repairs and identify situations that require intervention from MIT Facilities or other contractors; demonstrated understanding of current safety procedures regarding tools, machinery, lasers, material handling, and 3D printer technology; and ability to lift 50lbs. A B.A. in art, art technology, or related field preferred, as is least one year of experience working with college-age students in a teaching/advisory role (could be as a shop monitor or TA).
