FMLA and Leave of Absence Administrator

FMLA AND LEAVE OF ABSENCE ADMINISTRATOR, Human Resources-Disabilities Services and Medical Leaves Office, to consult with and advise employees, Human Resources' staff, and department managers on FMLA and non-FLMA medical leave-related matters. Will provide guidance/solutions and influence outcomes in activities related to employee absences that fall within and outside of existing leave programs. Responsibilities include interpreting MIT's policies regarding sick leave, extended sick leave (ESL), and FMLA and ensuring that MIT complies with applicable federal and state statutes and regulations; determining FMLA and ESL eligibility and authorizing or denying requests; submitting long term disability (LTD) claims to vendor in a timely manner; serving as back-up for ADA and workers compensation; processing and administering leaves in relevant databases; analyzing data regarding utilization and benefits payouts; recommending program changes for FMLA/ESL/ LTD; effectively communicating complex information orally and in writing to parties inside and outside MIT as it relates to FMLA and medical leaves, including counseling/educating/guiding employees and their family members through the leave process, discussing leaves with medical providers and authorized attorneys, and coordinating with third-party administrator regarding claims for LTD; and drafting and delivering training programs covering a range of MIT leave processes.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a bachelor's degree; at least three years of relevant experience; thorough knowledge of leave policies/requirements/regulations; experience collecting medical information and making eligibility determinations; strong problem solving, planning, organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; training and analytical skills; good judgment and tact with sensitive and confidential information/issues/situations; advanced computer software skills with Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint; and willingness to learn new software applications as needed.
