Director of Benefits



DIRECTOR OF BENEFITS, Human Resources, to partner with the vice president for human resources and collaborate with MIT leadership on developing and delivering competitive, cost-effective benefits and work-life programs that respond to the changing needs of the MIT population and support the Institute's mission. Will be responsible for the design, pricing, communication, administration, and compliance aspects of MIT's retirement, health, insurance, and work-life programs; lead a team of approximately twenty-five staff; and manage a large number of vendor relationships. The total population served numbers more than 40,000, including active employees and their dependents, retirees and their dependents, and vested terminated employees.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; minimum of ten years' experience in benefits planning and management, healthcare or retirement policy, or benefits administration, preferably in higher education; experience identifying, designing, recommending, and implementing efficient, innovative business solutions to complex benefits challenges; demonstrated experience and commitment to managing teams of benefits professionals and commitment to individual team development; broad understanding of benefits-related laws, regulations, and government programs, including ERISA, HIPAA, and ACA; demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning, project and time management, and resource and budget allocation; advanced negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision making skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex technical information in a clear and understandable way that is tailored to the needs of the target audience and to make effective formal presentations to leadership and committees with diverse perspectives; demonstrated leadership ability in a large, complex environment; flexible and collaborative leadership style; proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. Advanced degree and/or professional benefits certifications strongly preferred. Job #14661-R
