DATA SYSTEMS SPECIALIST, Office of Digital Learning (ODL) , to join a group whose mission is to transform teaching and learning at MIT and around the globe through the innovative use of digital technologies. Will retrofit existing course content with new technical enhancements; run tools to detect broken web links and manage their resolution; assist the team in building technically challenging aspects of course content and with efficient high-volume preproduction content processing such as converting formats and batch-processing files for accessibility; provide final quality assurance checks on course content to ensure that it meets evolving publication standards, including accessibility and mobile-friendliness; provide day-to-day technical support for the OCW (OpenCourseWare) course publication team; and help test new site features.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : at least two years' technical working experience, preferably in an academic environment; hands-on experience with content management systems and with Adobe Acrobat and PDF, including batch processing; basic understanding of server-side CSS preprocessing platforms (e.g., SASS) and of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery; proficiency with web markup (including HTML5 and CSS3), working on cross-browser compatibility issues and on ways to work around them, and with code versioning tools such as Git; solid understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that application will adhere to them; and basic understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), mobile technologies and mobile design tenets, and website optimization.
