Department Summary:
Bridgewater State Universitys Department of Fiscal Affairs provides stakeholders and the campus community with timely, relevant and accurate fiscal reporting in accordance with federal, state and other laws and regulations. The Fiscal Affairs Department oversees the areas of general accounting, treasury and grant reporting functions of the University, and the Universitys component units.

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Comptroller of Fiscal Affairs, the Staff Assistant assists the Fiscal Affairs Department with updating policies and procedures for the Fiscal Affairs Department, ensuring compliance with all State and Federal laws, rules and regulations, reconciling the general ledger and assisting with all financial reporting generated by the Fiscal Affairs Office, to include both the University and the component units (Foundation and Alumni Association). The Staff Assistant assists with responding to revisions of accounting standards, as well as responding to the University and component unit's audit and ad hoc requests.

Supervision Received: The Staff Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Comptroller of Fiscal Affairs. The position provides support to the Director of Student Accounts and the Assistant Comptroller as needed.

Supervision Exercised: None.

This is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties:
Core Duties:
1. Review and audit fiscal information for accuracy and quality assurance. Review and reconcile the general ledger including running and evaluating exception reports to ensure accuracy. Monitor and ensure the financial compliance of routine financial transactions for both the University and the component units.
2. Assists the Comptroller and Assistant Comptroller with the preparation and execution of the annual independent financial statement audits for the University, the Foundation and Alumni Association, the Universitys Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and any other audits which take place, including preparing audit schedules, gathering necessary documentation and responding to audit requests.
3. Assists the Comptroller and Assistant Comptroller with the preparation and execution of all reporting, including but not limited to all Board of Higher Education reporting, IPEDS reporting, BHE Survey, and Office of State Comptroller requests. Also, assists in the preparation of all confidential reporting to various State agencies. Review all generated and prepared financial reports for accuracy and compliance.
4. Assist the Director of Student Accounts with various projects such as monitoring accounts receivable, reconciling accounts and verifying transactions for accuracy, completeness and compliance.
5. Review and update the Universitys Internal Control Plan and all policies and procedures with the areas of Fiscal Affairs, the Foundation and Alumni Association and other areas as assigned.
6. Assist with fixed asset management, including maintaining the FAS system, tracking assets, running depreciation and monitoring the general ledger for both the University and the component units.
7. Reconciles the Blackboard Transaction System, the Universitys campus card software management system, which is a stored value system that students utilize for meal plans, vending and laundry. Performs reconciliations between Blackboard and the Universitys ERP system, Ellucian Banner.
9. Reconcile the Universitys TouchNet payment platform to Banner. TouchNet is the Universitys uCommerce Payment Platform which unifies all payment points across campus online, in person, back office and mobile.
10. Works cooperatively with other departments and the University community.
11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelors degree in accounting/finance or closely related discipline.
2. One to three years professional experience in the field of accounting or financial reporting.
3. Knowledge and skills in applying financial and operational internal controls, as well as financial policies.
4. Strong attention to detail, analytical capability and professional
judgment are required. Able to identify patterns in financial data.
5. Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to identify and set priorities; and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
6. Ability to work independently.
7. Strong work ethic, positive problem-solving attitude and enthusiasm for a collaborative working environment.
8. Ability to effectively deal with sensitive fiscal issues and maintain confidentiality at all times.
9. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated Knowledge of GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) and FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board).
2. Knowledge of Banner Finance and Banner Accounts Receivable preferred.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
