Head Field Hockey Coach (part-time, non benefitted, exempt)

Department Summary
It is the mission of the Department of Athletics and Recreation at Bridgewater State University to provide varsity, intramural, club and recreational activities to address the needs, interests and capabilities of our students, faculty and staff. All activities are conducted with fair sportsmanlike principles for men and women as mandated by our various sports governing bodies. With service to our campus as a priority, our activities are intended to enhance and be a vital part of the total collegiate experience for all participants

Position Summary
Develop, implement and manage the overall day-to-day operations of the Field Hockey Program, including teaching skills and strategies for the specific sport during practice and games in the traditional and non-traditional seasons.

Essential Duties

Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Field Hockey team, including teaching skills and strategies for the specific sport during practice and games in the traditional and non-traditional seasons

Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan to develop a highly competitive team.

Organize and direct a comprehensive student-athlete support program including promotion of the program, leadership development and student-athlete motivation through programs such as Peer Mentors and SAAC.

Coordinate team logistics with Athletic Department staff and other support personnel such as managers, scorekeepers, etc.

Monitor and oversee the academic development of field hockey student-athletes, ensuring academic progress to graduation

With appropriate certification from a national recognized governing body, develop an understanding of proper sports nutrition, personal health and safe strength development in field hockey student-athletes

Create a positive and healthy team culture that encourages learning and development

Hire, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches

Develop and implement team-specific community service and learning initiatives

Organize and direct team-specific fundraising initiatives as well as support program-wide fundraising initiatives such as the Crimson Pride Challenge and the Crimson Pride Classic Golf Tournament

Adhere to and support all rules, conditions and regulations as set forth by Bridgewater State University, Conference affiliations and the National Collegiate Athletic Association pertaining to all aspects of the team's management.

Assist the Office of Equal Opportunity /Title IX Coordinator office as a responsible employee with regard to incidents of sexual or gender-based harm or discrimination.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Three-four years in collegiate coaching and/or playing experience required.

Successful completion of the NCAA Division III Rules Test for Coaches by the 2nd full week of the playing and practice season

Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences (i.e., students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration and community)

Experience with Word, Excel and Publisher

Current certification in First Aid / CPR (AED)

Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates

Ability to lift 25 lbs. with appropriate accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree

Experience with FrontRush recruiting database management

Valid U.S. driver's license

Work Environment
Coaching activities are performed inside and outside, must be able to perform duties in various weather conditions. Coaching activities require incumbent to stand for varying lengths of time and travel moderate distance to perform work at the athletic event location; Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds with appropriate accommodations if needed. Must be able to move athletic event-related materials to and from athletic event sites.
