Department Summary:
Bridgewater State Universitys Department of Criminal Justice invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position to begin Fall 2018. We are a large, growing, dynamic department with a strong social justice orientation in both theory and practice seeks faculty committed to excellence in teaching, mentoring of students, and research. We seek a candidate with a demonstrable, significant commitment to teaching who is an active and productive scholar.

Essential Duties:
Bridgewater State University has a 12 credit per semester teaching responsibility (most often implemented with a three-course preparation) supported with significant professional development opportunities and guidance. Faculty members maintain research programs, perform departmental and campus service, and advise majors in the department. Opportunities exist for developing new programs, running interdisciplinary programs, teaching short travel courses abroad, and pursuing research with undergraduates and graduate students, with university support.

Required Qualifications:
Prefer a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, but will consider candidates with a Ph.D. in Criminology, Sociology, Public Policy, Political Science, Social Work, Psychology or other closely related fields.

A law degree, alone, does not meet the requirement for the appropriate terminal degree for this position.

Doctoral students who are ABD and who are nearing completion of the dissertation will also be considered.

Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching, social justice, mentoring, and to working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity. They should also have a commitment to public higher education, an ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, be motivated to work collaboratively, and demonstrate scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications:
This position seeks an exceptional candidate who specializes in the critical analysis of judicial process and the courts, including the implications for fairness as well as racial, ethnic, gender and class equity.

We also encourage applications from candidates interested in collaboration beyond the criminal justice department. Bridgewater State University has many thriving programs and centers in areas such as a prelaw program, the Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice, and the Center for Multicultural Affairs. We also place a high value on undergraduate research and making connections outside the university through service-learning and faculty research projects.
