Vice President for Network Leadership

Background

Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 1000 colleges and universities committed to the public purposes of higher education. We are a network comprising a national office and state and regional Campus Compacts. As the largest national higher education association dedicated solely to campus-based civic engagement, Campus Compact enables campuses to develop students’ citizenship skills and forge effective community partnerships. Our resources support faculty, staff, and students as they pursue community-based teaching and scholarship in the service of positive change.

The strength and health of our relationships and our mechanisms for collective work are central to the achievement of our mission. We continuously seek to increase our effectiveness in leveraging our assets to advance change in higher education and beyond. The Vice President for Network Leadership will play a key role in ensuring that the Campus Compact network thrives as a community of shared learning and coordinated action.

The position

The Vice President for Network Leadership (VPNL) will provide guidance, inspiration, and practical support to network staff across the country, helping state and regional directors achieve local goals while advancing shared network priorities. The VPNL will serve as an organizer for Campus Compact staff, bringing us together to learn, innovate, share, and do great work.

The VPNL will also lead diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives—both internal and member-facing—consistent with our organizational commitment to building more just, equitable, and sustainable democratic communities. As a member of our national leadership team, the VPNL will be a voice for the public purposes of higher education and the value of inclusion for our network, our partners, and the publics to which we are connected. The VPNL reports to the President.

Specifically, the VPNL will:

● Supervise state and regional Compact directors employed by Campus Compact. The VPNL will provide advice and support to directors in areas such as program development, member recruitment, fundraising, and staff supervision.

● Serve as the primary liaison to state and regional directors not in the employ of Campus Compact. The VPNL will facilitate dialogue with and among directors on national priorities and effective practices for achieving national and local goals.

● Represent Campus Compact on our standing network governance committees, the Mission Achieving Committee and Network Operations Committee.

● Lead efforts to maximize the degree to which Campus Compact, both in our national office and across our network, is an inclusive network. Develop an approach for ongoing professional development and policy reform. Support the integration of inclusion into all Campus Compact programs.

● Spearhead network efforts to support diversity, equity, and inclusion work through our member institutions. Build partnerships, identify models, envision events, identify funding sources, and take other appropriate steps to advance this work.

● Represent Campus Compact at network and public events, serving as a visible advocate for our values and priorities.
