Boston University (BU) is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). Chartered in 1869, the University is one of the leading private research and teaching institutions in the world, enrolling over 33,000 students, including over 16,000 undergraduates, and employing nearly 4,000 faculty members across 16 schools and colleges.  Students pursue studies on the Charles River and Medical Campuses as well as study abroad programs in over 30 cities around the world.  BU’s growth over the last quarter century has been profound, as it evolved from a regional university to an internationally recognized, residential, research university with over $350 million in sponsored research in 2013.

Founded in 1919, the Boston University School of Social Work has over 700 students, 30 full time faculty, and over 8,000 alumni, creating a vibrant and active community. The School offers a PhD in Social Work, and the MSW degree in one of three program formats: on the Charles River Campus, in part-time satellite programs, and in a part-time fully online MSW program. In addition, the School has three dual degree programs with Public Health, Theology, and Education, and an active post-graduate professional education program.  The MSW/MPH program is the oldest and largest in the U.S. with 50 students enrolled at various phases and over 350 graduates. The diversity of dual degree offerings and collaborations with other BU professional programs (e.g., medicine, psychology) demonstrates the School’s commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to solving human problems. MSW graduates have over a 90% licensure pass rate and job employment rate, and the largest portion of PhD graduates secure positions in academia and research consulting.

Ranked 16th (8th percentile) among graduate schools of social work by U.S. News & World Report, the School boasts a growing research portfolio on topics ranging from Department of Defense funded projects on families of returning veterans who are parents of small children to community-based studies of addictions and health programs for diverse populations.  In fiscal 2013, research expenditures totaled over $3 million from sources including NIH, DoD, SAMHSA, HRSA, and private foundations.
