Admissions Counselor - Public Health & Community Medicine, School of Medicine

The Tufts University School of Medicine's Office of Public Health and Professional Degree Programs oversees the administrative operations of the medical school graduate programs, inclusive of admissions, registration, career services and general student services functions.

The Admissions Counselor works with a professional Admissions team to fulfill the enrollment objectives set by the Medical School s Public Health & Professional Degree Programs (PHPD). S/he reads and evaluates applications for admission by reviewing applications and making recommendations/assignments to the Admissions Committee(s). Responsible for giving presentations about the PHPD programs, including virtual presentations. Prepares statistics for Admissions Committee(s) and other meetings that require statistical data. Additional responsibilities include preparing PowerPoint presentations as needed, providing informational updates for partner offices (e.g. Student Advisory and Health Administration, Office of International Affairs, etc.). Assists in the supervision of student workers and closely works with the Director and Sr. Asst. Director in implementing processes for matriculation. Works closely with Sr. Asst. Director of Admissions in ensuring the successful flow of the application business process. Provides assistance to the Director of Admissions and Sr. Asst. Director of Admissions, as needed. S/he conducts group/individual information sessions for prospective students and represents the PHPD at schools and college fairs during travel to assigned geographic recruitment territory. This individual assists the Sr. Asst. Director and Director of Admissions managing inventory, budget, travel schedules, website content etc. The Admissions Counselor s primary duties include the exercise of discretion and independent judgement in many areas. When reviewing applications, they must exercise judgement in determining an applicant s academic ability by making assessments of coursework/test scores, resume, related experience and professionalism, and consider many other discerning factors. They must also exercise judgement and discretion in communicating with applicants disseminating information regarding applications and significant individual personal matters.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree and up to 5 years of related experience, as a student employee or professional in a secondary school or institution of higher education. Master s degree receives strong consideration.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Admissions experience in higher ed, customer service, alumni relations, previous recruitment experience.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Position requires travel and limited non-standard work schedule.
