VIDEO EDITOR

SUMMARY:

The Video Editor will edit footage and produce videos for commercial promotion, educational programs, and internal use for the Kentucky State University College of Agriculture, Food Science, and Sustainable Systems and Land Grant Program research and extension programs. This position will collaborate with the Production Coordinator and Media and Communications Manager to create ideas, story boards, and scripts, and to edit and produce footage that comes in for multiple projects. This position will work with Land Grant faculty, staff, and students to help tell the stories of their research and extension efforts across the region. The Video Editor will ensure the production runs smoothly without any holes in the project or story. The editor will need to be a self-starter who can work without direct supervision at all times and who can come up with projects and stories without direction. This position will require attention to detail and a creative and innovative approach to storytelling.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Edits and produces video projects for commercial and internal use.
  • Reads and helps prepare scripts for audio/visual production.
  • Assists with studio and field production shoots using various HD cameras and broadcast switching technology.
  • Creates graphics in Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign/After Effects to be inserted into video storylines.
  • Edits audio for video projects.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with faculty, staff, and students to come up with new video project ideas.
  • Manages video project storage in ISIS system.
  • Creates and maintains a video library for finished projects as well as an internal stock clip library for future project use.
  • Develops animation and broadcast-quality motion graphics for various digital video productions including animated logos, show opens/closes, lower thirds, and transitions.
  • Collaborates, brainstorms, multi-tasks, and manages projects with communications team.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of production/video editing experience. Proficiency in using linear editing system AVID Media Composer. Preferred experience with After Effects or equivalent graphics software.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of all matters pertaining to audio and visual media.
  • Solid knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and audio editing software.
  • Highly driven, self-motivated and works well independently and under pressure.
  • Willingness to contribute creative an innovative ideas for video projects.
  • Proficiency in placing footage in a smooth sequence to tell a story.
  • Ability to collaborate on video projects at all planning, development, and production stages.
  • Ability to incorporate techniques including inserting audio files for sound into video and to remove unnecessary sounds that may hinder the production of the video.
  • Experience in video production, including sound mixers, live switching, digital HD cameras, and lighting.
  • Experience taking concepts and ideas and creating multimedia content.
  • Ability to technically trouble shoot any production and postproduction issues for solutions.
  • Self-starter capable of working without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to lift camera equipment.
  • Ability to work well as a team member.
  • Ability to adhere to the instructions of the project director/producer to ensure that the project meets the specific needs of the audience to which the video is directed.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.
  • Ability to work under deadlines.
  • Will need a valid Kentucky Driver's License.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Must be able to travel, primarily in-state (20%).
  • Occasionally may need to move light equipment and carry supplies, publications, and needed equipment for demonstration and training programs.
