Associate Dean for Academic Engagement and Public

Wichita State University Libraries is seeking innovative, forward-thinking, and experienced applicants for the position of Associate Dean for Academic Engagement and Public Services. This senior leadership position reports to the Dean of University Libraries and provides support to the University Libraries mission through activity on the Dean’s leadership team and through its areas of responsibility including the University Libraries Research Services Group comprised of the Library Instruction Program, Collection Management, Library Liaison Program, and Reference Desk; the Access Services Unit including Circulation, Course Reserves, Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery and Stacks Maintenance; the Patents and Trademarks Center; Government Documents; the McKinley Chemistry Library; and the Thurlow Lieurance Memorial Music Library. The position requires a strong leader in academic librarianship who is committed to continuous quality improvement and user-focused services.

Required qualification: Master’s (MLS, MLIS, or equivalent) from an American Library Association accredited program and at least five years of recent progressively more responsible experience in academic librarianship, public services, and/or a closely-related field as determined relevant by the agency, as well as, documented leadership and supervisory experience.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and constructively with others and commitment to providing exceptional public service; demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends and issues in higher education and the opportunities for and impact on library services; and demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends and issues in information and media literacies, liaison services, and research services; excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; skills in the development, implementation, and management of assessment, program, and policy initiatives; demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize activities and responsibilities; the ability to work effectively and creatively; ability to anticipate, adapt, and respond to changing needs and priorities in a user-centered, technology focused, and rapidly evolving library and university setting; willingness to accommodate a variety of learning styles and strategies in instructional delivery and learning activities, including online and blended learning, flexible teaching methods, and applied learning approaches. The successful candidate will also show evidence of potential to maintain an ongoing program of scholarship and professional development at a level that would merit tenure and promotion.

The position carries a 12-month contract; excellent professional development support, vacation and benefits, including TIAA-CREF. Faculty librarians have tenure-eligible appointments with rank. Offers of employment are contingent on satisfactory completion of a criminal background check as required by the Kansas Board of Regents.
