POOL - Lecturer



Position Overview

The Museum Studies Program invites qualified scholars and professionals to make application for part - to full-time Lecturer positions to teach one or more courses in the Museum Studies Program.

Application materials will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool for consideration for developing and/or teaching courses consistent with departmental instructional needs. Applications will be accepted throughout the year.

The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.


Job Description

100% - Lecturer
Depending on the need, teach course in designated area:
  • Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the lecturer must make arrangements for a substitute to teach class. Classes should not be canceled.
  • Provide instruction throughout the semester, usually 3 hours/week, one day a week.
  • Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, and assign grades.
  • Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught.
  • Adhere to departmental, College, and university policies.


  • Required Qualifications

    Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in C.V., and (3) information provided from professional references.

  • Master's degree in museum studies, historical administration, conservation or a related field in the humanities, arts, design, social sciences or natural sciences.
  • Five (5) or more years of distinguished teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Distinguished is defined as a lengthy and notable or prominent record of mastery in teaching at an accredited institution, as defined by peer evaluation, course evaluation, and/or supervisor evaluation;
  • OR Five (5) or more years of professional experience as a practitioner in the profession with the appropriate expertise and achievements to provide professional instruction in Museum Studies;

    OR
    Credentials (e.g., current license, badges, certificates, etc.) demonstrating achievement in Museum Studies that, in aggregate, insure appropriate expertise and achievements to provide professional instruction in Museum Studies;

    OR Consistent record of participation in professional development (e.g., workshops, coursework, certificate programs, etc.) plus research that, in aggregate, substantially meets the training equivalent of a PhD in Museum Studies.


    Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a related discipline.
  • More than five (5) years previous professional experience with a museum or historical agency.
  • Prior experience in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Relevant scholarly publications.
