Visiting Assistant Professor-Criminal Justice

The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at the IUPUI campus seeks to fill one or more visiting assistant professor positions in Criminal Justice starting with the fall 2017 semester. A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a related field is preferred, but ABD candidates will be considered.  The standard teaching load for a visiting professor is three courses per semester with service assignments, and a summer course for additional compensation is possible.  We have instructional needs in the areas of research methods, criminological theory, , and criminal justice policy.  The appointment is for the 2017/2018 academic year, but an additional year may be possible with strong evaluations of performance and depending on the teaching needs of the program. 

SPEA is a multi-disciplinary professional school of Indiana University, committed to excellence in teaching, research, and civic engagement that addresses critical issues of public affairs including criminal justice and public safety.  With more than 100 faculty members on the core campuses of Bloomington and Indianapolis, SPEA is among the largest schools of public affairs in the United States, and its programs are ranked highly by U.S. News and World Report. 

SPEA IUPUI has 745 undergraduates in criminal justice, public affairs, and sustainability majors as well as 285 graduate students in the NASPAA accredited MPA, Masters in Criminal Justice and Public Safety, and graduate certificate programs such as the certificate in Homeland Security and Emergency Management.  SPEA IUPUI maintains excellent relationships with state and local criminal justice agencies, and faculty have the opportunity to collaborate on research projects with the Public Policy Institute.

IUPUI is a research-intensive institution, with over $300 million in annual external grants and contracts.  With about 30,000 students, IUPUI is the third largest campus in the state and confers more professional degrees than any other campus in Indiana.  IUPUI is located in thriving downtown Indianapolis within walking distance to the state office complex, several museums and sports facilities.
