Assistant/Associate Professo-Military Social Work

DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK (SSW)
invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor rank starting the Fall of 2017.
 
Dominican University seeks an ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR with expertise in military social work practice and research with an emphasis on addressing needs of diverse military personnel, veterans, and their families in a variety of settings, including but not limited to military, community, institutional, or clinical. A candidate with experience in in-person, online and/or hybrid course development and teaching is preferred to give leadership to our military social work concentration and our military social work postgraduate certificate. The candidate must have a strong understanding of military culture through direct military experience or through documented research, practice, or other life experience.
 
Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of multidisciplinary social work practice experience and research focusing on one or more aspects of active-duty, reserve and veteran members of the military and their families. Candidates will demonstrate an understanding of all military branches and an expertise or interest in educating social work practitioners in addressing the needs of these military personnel, veterans and their families.
 
Position Expectations: The successful candidate is expected to provide leadership in the school's practice curriculum, including research and practice evaluation, initiate and publish research, teach three graduate level courses per semester, advise and mentor MSW students, provide leadership in relevant focus areas of the MSW curriculum, including supporting the field office in fostering military field placements in the community, and serve on school and University committees. The candidate has an opportunity to support and be involved in the school’s commitment to Diversity as Excellence, international endeavors and initiatives in diverse communities on Chicago’s Greater West Side and in Lake County, IL. 
 
About the School: Located in suburban Chicago, Dominican University is a comprehensive Catholic university designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The School of Social Work at Dominican University prepares professional social workers for globally focused, family-centered practice with diverse populations through rigorous education, practice, research and service. Dominican University offers two concentrations: one in globally-focused family-centered practice and one in military social work practice. We also offer certificates in school social work, gerontology and child welfare. We have dual degrees in Business, Library Information Science and Conflict Resolution. We are a private teaching institution with an accredited CSWE MSW program whose mission is centered on truth, compassion, empowerment and social justice.
 
Qualifications: Applicants should possess a doctorate (or be ABD with documented expectation of completing the PhD by the end of the 2017-2018 Academic Year) in social work or a related social science field. They should have a commitment to teaching, service and research. Preferred qualifications include an MSW with at least two years of practice experience with diverse populations of military personnel, a social work license, experience with teaching, demonstrated potential for grant writing, and scholarship in social work. Candidates applying for the Associate Professor level must have an established record of grant funding, scholarship and teaching, and must meet the University's requirements for the rank.
