Dean, Indiana University School of Dentistry

The Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, with the appointment to begin on July 1, 2019. The Dean will lead IUSD as it advances oral health in the state of Indiana and beyond.

Indiana University School of Dentistry

IUSD, the only dental school in the state, located on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis, offers a dynamic learning environment in which teaching, research, clinical care, and community service come together. IUSD’s main Indianapolis facility includes the new state-of-the-art 45,000–square-foot James J. Fritts D.D.S. Clinical Care Center. The school is extending its programs elsewhere in the state, including Fort Wayne and soon Evansville, and delivers a wide range of services and outreach to an expanding patient base that currently numbers over 20,000. IUSD enrolls approximately 800 students annually in degree and/or certificate programs in dentistry, allied health programs, and advanced dental programs that are tailored to the current and future needs of the professions. Over 12,000 alumni of IUSD are pursuing careers throughout the U.S. and around the world, while the majority of practicing dentists in Indiana trained at the school.

IUSD’s clinical programs serve the needs of thousands of patients in Indianapolis and, through its community-based dentistry programming, IUSD provides preventive care to thousands of children in need throughout the state. A recently awarded four-year $1.6 million HRSA grant will support IUSD Community-Based Dental Education.

IUSD is committed to cutting-edge biomedical research with the ultimate goal of improving oral and systemic health. Recently, through new federal funding, research faculty recruitments, and collaborations, IUSD is seeking to expand its research in multiple NIDCR strategic research areas including dental informatics, dental public health, and regenerative dentistry. Dental school faculty members have strong collaborations with faculty in the medical center and other schools at IUPUI, as well as in other universities in the state, the U.S., and abroad.

IUPUI

As Indiana’s premier urban public research university and life sciences campus, IUPUI is a thriving, dynamic, and growing institution. Besides IUSD, IUPUI is home to the Indiana University School of Medicine (the only allopathic medical school in the state), the Indiana University School of Nursing, the Indiana University School of Social Work, the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, and allied health programs in the School of Health & Human Sciences. The Dean works closely with the leadership of these schools, especially in the area of interprofessional education.

IUPUI promotes the educational, cultural, and economic development of central Indiana and beyond through innovative collaborations, external partnerships, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. The campus has received the prestigious Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from Insight Into Diversity (the nation’s oldest diversity higher education publication) for six consecutive years. IUPUI empowers all students and employees to pursue excellence in an inclusive and welcoming climate, which is complemented by a drive towards greater internationalization, in which the school is a leader through its links with Saudi Arabia. As an anchor institution within the city of Indianapolis, IUPUI has been recognized for excellence in civic engagement and community partnerships.
