Senior Director of Digital Communications & Social Media



Function:
Oversee the college's Communications Office and its major initiatives and digital communications strategy, including planning and implementing communications strategies to promote, enhance, and protect the college's image and reputation, convey accomplishments and initiatives, and assure a positive image through an aggressive digital media and public relations agenda. This position also works with the Chief Marketing and Communications officer to oversee strategic external and internal communications, crisis communications and serves as a direct back up to the CMCO.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain relationships with media and local and regional NIMS public information officers to effectively work with them during a crisis. Serve as a member of the college's emergency response team to plan, and respond to emergency situations on campus. Prepare, maintain and test the college's crisis communications plan and resources.

2. Planning and execution of strategic day-to-day media relations and digital communications, including story pitches and proactive and reactive plans and tactics.

3. Set strategic direction to meet internal and external communication goals.

4. Oversee strategy and execution of traditional and digital communication platforms.

5. Serve on strategic college committees.

6. Manage the strategy and content creation for the college's official social media sites.

7. Research and implement new media to build and sustain relationships, and provide strategic consultation, planning and assisting in the incorporation of blogs, podcasts, social media, and other technology in the college's digital communication efforts.

8. Work with the Director of Web Services and the Managing Director of Marketing Strategy to provide input as needed on digital content in alignment with marketing and communications goals and initiatives.

9. Provide support and assist with planning of strategic institutional events, such as convocation, graduation, grand openings, and other ceremonies.

Physical Demands:
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Position requires close visual acuity to perform activities (i.e. preparing/analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes).

Moderate noise.

Typical office or administrative conditions (i.e. not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions).

Required Qualifications:
1. Master's degree (MA) in communications, public relations or related field or academic discipline.

2. Minimum of three to five years management experience in public relations, government relations or communications.

3. Excellent written communication skills in a wide variety of forms, including but not limited to news releases, social media, internal messaging, and digital platforms for effective communications strategies.

4. Practical knowledge of AP Style editing guidelines and other editorial standards and copy editing techniques.

5. Excellent social media skills required, including the development of content and overall content strategy and deployment.

6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database applications.

7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

8. Demonstrated planning ability.Ability to demonstrate a diversified portfolio of creative projects.

9. Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.

10. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Desired Qualifications:
1. A working knowledge of continuous improvement principles and processes.

2. Knowledge of social media management platforms.

3. Experience with email marketing tools such as MailChimp or Constant Contact.

4. Crisis management experience.

5. Experience with tracking and reviewing analytics.
