Assistant Youth Coordinator II



Function:
The purpose of this position is to assist with the recruitment and coordination of services for youth between the ages of 16 & 24. Assist with the development and implementation of a more comprehensive program for youth enrolled in the LWIA 5 program. The assistant coordinator would be responsible for the development of a Financial Literacy Program and facilitation of workshops and panel presentations on Entrepreneurial Skills Training. Assistant coordinator will be responsible for extensive documentation in the IWDS computer system as required by the funding agency. Assistant coordinator will work reach out to other communities such as Carpentersville, West Dundee, Gilberts, Hampshire, St Charles, and Pingree Grove. Direct supervision will be minimal when the assistant coordinator is working off-site; therefore someone who is self-directed will be needed.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Assist with recruitment, assessment and retention of youth participants.

2. Assist with maintenance of student records. Add case notes of all student activities and youth goals into the required data entry system on a regular basis.

3. Identify and connect community resources and support services that would benefit the participant. Assist with distribution and documentation of bus and gas cards.

4. Create monthly newsletter.

5. Assist with coordination of services and monitoring student success in areas of education, employment and personal development through workshops, supportive services and trainings.

6. Coordinate volunteer opportunities and college tours.

7. Assist coordinator with production of required grant reports as well as development of activates and programming for current and future cycles.

Physical Demands:
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Position requires close visual acuity to perform activities (i.e. preparing/analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes).

Moderate noise.

Typical office or administrative conditions (i.e. not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions).

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university in counseling, sociology or a related area; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

2. Minimum of two years experience working with at-risk youth and/or other low-income populations.

3. Strong interpersonal skills to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

4. Strong organizational, verbal, and written skills.

5. Available to attend appropriate workshops and conferences.

6. Experience in MS Office Suite required.

7. Valid Illinois driver's license and the ability to commute to offsite locations on a frequent basis.

8. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required by the department's needs.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Bilingual Spanish/English.
