Adjunct Faculty - Nursing BNA Program



Function:
Adjunct teaching faculty instruct students and evaluate their progress to facilitate students in attaining their educational goals.

Essential Responsibilities:
JOB TASKS/ELEMENTS

Deliver Instruction
1) Conduct assigned classes and/or labs
2) Prepare lessons
3) Provide course syllabus (which shall include grading standards, attendance policies, classroom behavioral expectations, course outline and contact information)
4) Verify student enrollment and submit grade sheets

If a lab is involved:
5) Prepare labs
6) Enforce lab safety procedures

Evaluate Student Progress
1) Keep accurate records of student performance
2) Provide students with timely feedback

Provide Student Assistance
1) Maintain office hours and voice-mail/e-mail communication
2) Refer students to student support services
3) Accommodate special needs students

Required Qualifications:
a) shall be a registered nurse with a minimum of two years nursing experience, who has no other duties while engaged in the training program
b) and have one year of experience as a registered nurse in one or both of the following areas:
1) teaching an accredited nurse's training program
2) caring for the elderly or for the chronically ill of any age through employment in a nursing facility, extended care unit, geriatrics department, chronic care unit, hospice, swing bed unit of a hospital, or other long-term care setting.
c) Each theory course instructor shall also possess at least one of the following qualifications:
1) a valid Illinois teaching certificate or a provisional certificate
2) a certificate indicating completion of a Department approved train the trainer workshop/program
3) evidence of at least one semester of formal teaching experience
4) college course work during the previous six years, which includes at least one course in teaching/learning principles, curriculum development, teaching methods, or instructional techniques
