Job Description:


Basic Function and Responsibility:

Responsible for coordinating the operations and activities of the Online Learning Department and for managing all projects related to online teaching and learning. The manager communicates directly with faculty members and arranges for pedagogical and technical training as needed. Additional responsibilities include support of online students; compliance and quality assurance of online learning courses and programs.

Online Learning Program Operations and Administration
  • Coordinate online and hybrid program operations and activities, including course development, technology tools and distance learning initiatives.
  • Assist the Dean of Online Learning in developing and implementing processes, guidelines and procedures and best practices related to online teaching and learning.
  • Manage online pedagogy and technology projects targeted to improve the effectiveness of online instruction, student learning, engagement, retention and success.
  • Provide online/hybrid course scheduling information to College Advancement for course schedules.
  • Coordinate with Institutional Research regarding online data reporting, and oversee analysis of reports with deans and chairs.
  • Follow national trends, state and federal regulations and accreditation standards to ensure compliance.
  • Serve on college committee and statewide organizations (Illinois Community Colleges Online -ILLCO) as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish duties and responsibilities.
  • Contribute to the promotion of online learning at the college.
Online Faculty Support

  • Work with faculty to promote and encourage the use of effective pedagogy and technology tools in the online learning environment.
  • Advise faculty on the legalities of copyright, licensing and accessibility issues as they impact teaching; and coordinate faculty training and professional development as related to pedagogy of online instruction, in consultation with IT and Media Design Specialists.
  • Schedule and oversee review of online courses each term based upon course rubric. Track follow-up actions.
  • Work with appropriate faculty, staff and administrators to develop guidelines, mentoring and additional supports, especially for faculty new to online teaching. May include establishment and enforcement of requirements for teaching online.
  • Work with faculty in development of appropriate and successful online testing methodologies.
  • Coordinate off campus professional development participation for faculty teaching online/hybrid courses and promote sharing of learning.
  • Assist faculty and staff in use of the Internet Course Exchange (ICE) system. Facilitate and enter ICE student enrollments, request seats from faculty/chairs/deans, process mid-term and final grades.
Student Support
  • Work with Student Success team, faculty, administrators and others as appropriate to develop policies/procedures for online student screening, orientation and support interventions.
  • Provide support to online students by responding to their phone calls, emails, visits and requests.
  • Review online student success initiatives regularly, assess for effectiveness and develop revisions/adjustments as needed to improve outcomes.
  • Monitor online learning website. Suggest improvements and maintain information and resources available to promote student success.
  • Oversee online proctoring process and activities for online students.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:

Light lifting up to 10 lbs and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions

Requirements:


Qualifications and Working Conditions:

  • Master's degree in educational design or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and abilities can be obtained is required.
  • Three years of experience in a college level, distance learning program is required.
  • Two years of college level teaching experience is desired.
  • Project management skills, including ability to plan, manage, implement and evaluate online/hybrid courses, programs and support initiatives is required.
  • Experience with learning management systems, such as Brightspace (D2L), Canvas, Blackboard and others is required.
  • Experience with educational technology tools and platforms; and familiarity with microcomputers and database software is required.
  • Experience with deployment of applications or tools used in online learning environment, such as remote online proctoring, course evaluation, web conferencing, lecture capture, multimedia tools, etc., is required.
  • Experience with usability and accessibility requirements, such as ADA Section 508, universal design strategies in online learning is required.
  • An understanding of best practices in online teaching and learning design is required.
  • The ability to interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the College community at large is required.

Additional Information:


HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 5:00 pm

Salary: $57,702
