Duties and Responsibilities
The Loyola University Community Law Center serves clients whose main source of income is public assistance or SSI as well as those classified as the working poor, who are struggling to meet their obligations. Candidates should demonstrate a clear commitment to a legal career in public service. Additionally, candidates should have an interest in litigation and a desire to gain invaluable courtroom experience. The position requires the clinical fellow to handle his or her own caseload under the supervision of the clinic s director, Theresa Ceko. Cases handled by the clinic include but are not limited to landlord/ tenant disputes, clients petitioning for guardianship of a disabled adults, representing minors as the Guardian ad Litem, as well as a myriad of family law related matters.

Additionally, this semester marks the first of our new Veterans Practicum as part of the Illinois Joining Forces Legal Aid Network. The Veterans Practicum is a cross-disciplinary effort in partnership with the School of Social Work designed to better address veterans social and legal needs. The 2018 IBF Fellow will also have the opportunity to represent veterans and their families in a myriad of civil legal matters under the supervision of the director, Emily Vaughan.

Qualifications
The fellow will be expected to appear on all court dates under the authority of a 711 license prior to being admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois in November of 2018. Once admitted to the Illinois Bar, the fellow will also assist in the supervision of student work and classroom exercises. Only law students who graduated in December of 2017 or will graduate in May of 2018 will be considered for this position.

The fellowship is a full-time faculty position including benefits with a salary of $40,000 for its one year duration with an approximate start date of August 13, 2018.
