Assistant Professor of Graphic Design

Illinois Wesleyan University and the Ames School of Art invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. This tenure-track position is a nine-month appointment beginning August 1, 2019. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. We are seeking an individual with potential to provide leadership and excellence in graphic design theory and practice. The successful candidate will teach all levels of graphic design with expertise in typography and two or more of the following areas: image-making, identity design, information design, motion, web design, mobile app development, video. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to inspire students conceptually and technologically.

The Ames School of Art, one of four professional schools, offers the BFA, BA, and minors in Graphic Design, Art, and Art History. The School of Art boasts two galleries, a new Macintosh computer lab, and outstanding facilities for drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, and glass.

Minimum Qualifications

MFA in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or equivalent terminal degree in closely related field

Demonstrable skills in oral and written communications

Preferred Qualifications

College-level teaching experience

Demonstrated excellence in teaching

Evidence of creative/scholarly activity

Experience in curriculum development and implementation

Responsibilities

Teach six courses annually as assigned by the Director and consistent with expertise. Oversee and mentor students in design internships. Applicants will be expected to engage in scholarly activities, provide academic advising to students, and participate in department, college, and university service.
