The Idaho State Board of Education and the Lewis-Clark State College community invite nominations and applications for the position of President. The successful candidate will succeed Dr. J. Anthony Fernández, who is retiring after serving with distinction since 2010.

LCSC, Idaho’s second oldest higher education institution, will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2018. A regional state college, LCSC’s student population of 3,746 represents 28 states and 32 countries. With the support of 476 talented faculty and staff, students undertake study in over 130 degree and certificate programs; LCSC’s Coeur d’Alene campus offers 13 degree programs. LCSC’s Warrior athletes compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

EXPECTATIONS

The successful candidate will work to advance LCSC with the State Board of Education and its systemwide responsibilities. The college community and the greater community of support for LCSC expect a progressive, inspirational, and approachable leader.  

CHARACTERISTICS

Applicants for the presidency of Lewis-Clark State College should possess the following experiences and characteristics:

• Focus on student well-being in academic programs, student services, health and safety matters, and athletics; 

• Enrollment management know-how based upon student diversity, access, and success;

• Proven experience in institutionalizing diversity and a culture of inclusiveness;

• Commitment to delivery of higher education to rural regions and outreach centers;

• Consultative and collaborative leadership, governance, and management style;

• Effective problem-solver and thoughtful, evidence-based decision maker;

• Experience with strong fiscal management, fundraising, resource generation, and identifying new efficiencies;

• Understanding of the significance of technology in the delivery of education and preparation of 21st century graduates;

• Ability to be positively effective with the State Board of Education and interact with diverse constituencies, including the state legislature, State Board staff, colleague Idaho public college and university presidents, the Nez Perce and Coeur d’Alene Tribes, rural leaders, businesses, foundations, and residents from all parts of the state;

• Capacity to cultivate and increase meaningful business, community, and higher education partnerships;

• Appreciation for marketing, networking, and vigorous outreach for the college in the local and regional communities, statewide, and in the northwest United States;

• Desire to engage and work with an active LCSC Alumni Association, the Warrior Athletic Association, and the LCSC Foundation; and

• Sound interpersonal skills and compelling communicator, respectful listener, and team player.

Lewis-Clark State College prefers a candidate who understands the teaching environment through personal experience and has an appreciation for career-technical education with the college’s rich liberal arts and professional programs tradition. Applicants with a terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution, along with a substantial leadership background, will be preferred.

The application must include a letter of interest of not more than three pages; a current résumé (or curriculum vitae); and the names of five professional references with each person’s position, office or home address, e-mail address, and telephone numbers.

Applications will remain confidential through the finalist stage. References will not be contacted without prior authorization from the applicant. Following campus visits by finalists, the State Board of Education will conduct interviews and make the final selection. The new president will assume office in July 2018.
